What happens at a braids appointment
First appointments are easier when you know what happens.
- Arrival and chat. We confirm your look, length and hair history. You do not need to wash your hair first, because the wash is included.
- Assessment. Before any braiding, your stylist checks strand support, density, breakage, your hairline and your scalp.
- Wash, condition and blow-dry. Your hair is cleansed, conditioned and blow-dried straight, ready to braid.
- Planning. Your look becomes section sizes and a fibre plan for your hair.
- Braiding. Tension is checked section by section as we go. Each style guide explains how its style is made.
- Finishing and home care. We check shape, ends and neatness. You leave with a dry, finished style and a walk-through of care and warning signs.

Questions clients ask before booking
What is the best braid for a fine or tender hairline? Knotless braids are usually the gentlest, because they start with less pull at the root.2 Choose a larger braid size and a shorter length, which pull less on each root.1 The knotless braids guide explains why.
How long do braids last? Most braids last 4 to 8 weeks, and dermatologists advise taking any braids out by 8 weeks.1 Each guide gives the right time for its style, and the table above compares them.
Do braids hurt? They should not. A slight pull for a day or two while braids settle can be normal, but pain, stinging, crusts or tenting mean they are too tight.1 Tell your stylist and we adjust it there and then. The braid care guide explains the warning signs.

Do you braid natural, relaxed and transitioning hair? Yes. We braid natural, relaxed, pressed and transitioning hair. Transitioning hair needs extra care, because it is weakest where new growth meets relaxed hair.3
Words used in this guide
Extension (or fibre): the synthetic or human hair added to your own hair to make a braid longer and fuller.
Strand support and density: how strong each strand is, and how much hair you have in each section.
Relaxed hair: hair straightened with a chemical relaxer. Pressed hair: hair straightened with heat.
Transitioning hair: hair growing out from a relaxer, so it has both relaxed and natural hair.
Curl blends: curly extension hair mixed into the braid to add texture.
Take-down: taking the braids out.
Unplait: to open braids back out into loose hair.
